What is the Gut Intelligence™ test? How is it done?

The Gut Intelligence™ test looks at the gut microbiome transcriptome - in other words, we sequence the transcriptome (all of the RNA molecules) of the organisms in your sample, down to the strain level (and including viruses, bacteria, yeast, fungi, bacteriophages, parasites, etc.). Viome testing is different from other tests. We identify what microbes are active over a meaningful threshold. Any organisms that are dead or dormant will not show in our results. Our test prioritizes knowing the microbe activity, over knowing if other microbes are present.

Our method detects transcripts (RNAs) produced by the microbial community. We are able to see down to one in a million transcripts. We cannot detect microbes that contribute fewer than one in a 1,000,000 specific transcripts. In addition, Viome only sees active microbes in your gut. If other microbes are there, but are not active, we will not pick up their RNA. By logging into the app (iOS, Android, or web-based), you can see your microbes divided into groups of Archaea, Bacteria, Eukaryotes and Viruses

Conducting the Gut Intelligence™ test is easy - all we need from you is a stool sample. All materials needed for collection, as well as detailed instructions, are sent to your home along with your kit.

Does Viome test for food allergies or sensitivities?

Viome testing requires a stool sample. Stool samples do not contain the necessary immune markers needed to pinpoint specific food allergens.

In other words, stool testing does not detect your immune reaction to foods. We do not currently test for food sensitivities or incorporate known allergies when providing food recommendations.

If you receive a food recommendation to which you have an allergy, do not eat that food. Viome wants you to feel your best, so known allergies and sensitivities should be taken into account when you follow your Viome recommendations.

Refrain from eating any food that you know causes a reaction of any kind.
